CNC programming Apprentice tells his story

June 9, 2015 Stephen Smyth - No Comments

My name is Jake Cousins, I work for Gibbs Gears. My employer is a manufacturer and my role is CNC programming.

How did you come to be an Apprentice?

I had been looking since I left school, but I struggled to find one straight away, so did a year at college and when I finished that, I found the apprenticeship. My brother had done an apprenticeship – he is a bit older than me – so he guided me as to what I needed to know and what I should be looking for.

What do you gain from an apprenticeship?

The practical experience as well as the academic qualification will hold me in good stead for the future.

What about the future?

Well when I finish the level three, if I complete it well, I will have the opportunity to go onto an HNC which is the first level of a degree.
