Cycle Mechanic Apprentice

Bicycle Recycling is all about providing training and real job opportunities for young people through a modern vibrant business, wholly owned by youth charity Motiv8. Bicycle Recycling offers 3 core functions; a) Recycling and sales, b) Servicing and repairs and c) Training in cycle maintenance.

We are now looking to recruit a Cycle Mechanic Apprentice.

Duties include:

  • You will be required to service, assemble, repair and prepare bikes for our customers. This will include repairing brakes, gears, bearings, spokes, tyres/tubes, etc
  • Dealing with customers face to face, by phone and email
  • Cash handling                  
  • Order and replenish stock                       
  • Receive and store stock into the workplace       
  • Complete audits of stock 
  • Regularly attend training sessions                       
  • Comply with Health & Safety
  • Working as part of a team
  • Keeping a tidy and well organised work area

Training to be Provided

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance & Installation - Cycles pathway
  • Cytech 2
  • Level 2 Certificate in Cycle Maintenance
  • Functional Skills in Maths English & IT if applicable
  • Employee Responsibilities and Rights
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills

Skills Required
  • The right attitude: Apprentices need to be interested in cycle maintenance and show enthusiasm for the retailer and their services and products
  • Good people skills:
  • Team player: You must be capable of working in a flexible and ever changing environment
  • Reading and writing skills: You will be dealing with money, prices and products so you need basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Presentable: Dress and appearance counts
  • Interest and experience in the maintenance and repair of bikes would be desirable.

Qualifications Required

You will need 4 GCSE grades A*-D, including English, or a full Level 1 qualification at merit grade with literacy and numeracy at an appropriate level.
